Teach Me to Abide…

Since I was young, I have always journaled my prayers and had pen and paper ready when I spend time with the Lord.  At some point along the way I was told that if we show up in expectation that God will speak, and ready to receive, we will be more likely to hear and be ready to write down what he is saying. For me sometimes that is a lot and sometimes that is a little and it comes in many different ways and methods.

Sometimes I will ask God a question about a certain topic or question I have and He will give me a full answer that I can type out as if He is dictating a letter to me.  Since January I have been meditating on scriptures about abiding and trying to fully wrap my mind around all the Bible says about it. I’ll be discussing this over several posts, but I am going to start by sharing the Lord’s words to me on January 9th when I asked him to “draw me close and teach me to abide.” It gave me such a good picture of what that looks like and has then helped me to look at all the scriptures that go along with it.  I hope it will help and encourage you as well.

Draw me close and teach me to abide.

Abiding is a submission of your will.  A submission of all things that you desire to me.  A letting go to embrace all that I am.  It is not holding onto the things that you find comforting, to the things you find security in but finding all of your comfort, your peace and your security in me.  Drawing from me for your sustenance, for your rest, for your answers and for your peace.  Letting me fill you once you’ve emptied yourself of everything in this world.  Giving yourself to worship, to long for and to walk in the things that I desire to do and love.

To let yourself be loved fully not because you are worthy of the love that I give but because I love to love you.  I love to lavish my love and my gifts on my children.  Not because they are worthy of them but because I love them.  I love to walk before you and lead you and see you grow and blossom.  I love to see your heart full because it is full of me.  Because you are fully loved by me.  My love is enough.  My love covers over a multitude of sins.  It brings perfection into places of chaos and order into places of confusion.  It is perfect – my love is perfect and you are made perfect by my love.  Receive my love.  You don’t earn it; you just receive it.

Lean into me, hold onto me tightly. I do the rest.  As you hold onto me, as you draw close to me as, you love me, I do the rest.  You don’t have to strive, you don’t have to work for it, just rest in my perfect love and receive the things I have to give you.  I give fountains of living water.  I am the bread of life, the sustainer of all things.  My word gives life to your body and joy to your bones.  My words restore, renew and reveal things in your life.  Come to me, sit with me, rest in me, find your joy and peace in me.  Let the things of this world fall away, let the worries of this age fall away, set your eyes on me.  I will lead you in the way everlasting.  I will lead you beside still waters.  I will quiet your soul. I will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is stayed on me.

I offer everything freely and willingly, out of love, it is always a gift. It is always from a place of love and compassion.  From a place of desiring to be with you, to love you, to walk with you as you walk with me.  To hold you tightly and keep you safe from the things of the world.  I am for you, I am holding you close to me.  I will lead you in the way everlasting.  Keep your eyes on me.  Walk with me, my love.   I am proud to call you daughter.  I am with you always.  I am here always.  Never will I leave you or forsake you.

I am the lamp unto your feet and the light unto your path.  Walk with me, talk with me, hear my voice.  Hear the words I speak over you that renew and give life.  Hear the words for my people that bring encouragement and restoration.  Speak my words.  Breath my words.  Do not hold back, go forth walking with me, abiding in me—full of my spirit, full of my love, full of all of me, I will not disappoint those who are faithful. I will not disappoint the surrendered. I have grace for all things.

Walk towards me, follow beside me closely, in my shadow there is peace and protection.  We will be victorious.  You are never alone.  You are never alone.  I have carried you from the moment you were conceived.  I have purposed for your life and guarded over you.  I have protected you and will continue.  You are mine.  I call you mine.

Love, love, love.  I love you with a perfect sustaining and everlasting love.  You have nothing to fear.  Open your heart to receive.  Receive it all, I want to pour forth my blessings and my favor, my love and grace into your life.  From the deepest well I draw out and pour in, a well that never runs dry.  I always have more to give. I will never run out of goodness and grace.  I will never run out of love.  I will never depart from my ways.  I will never leave you.  I am unchanging. I am constant.  I am immovable.  I am trustworthy.  I am the rock, your firm foundation.

Come and rest in me.  Cease striving, be still and know that I am your God.  I belong to you and you belong to me.  You do not have to work for my goodness.  You do not have to strive for my ways.  I want you to rest in me.  Trust in me, I will provide for your every need.  Your every question, I hold the answer to.  Your every worry belongs to me, not you. Open your hands, lift up your heart, release to me everything you still cling to.  I’ve got this, I’ve got it all.  I am reliable, unshakable, eternal.  My plans and purposes for you are eternal.

Come with me, journey with me into the unknown and unfathomable joy that I bring in the journey.  You ain’t seen nothing yet.  I have so much more for you that awaits in my presence.  In my presence is the fullness of joy, treasures forevermore.  So much joy, so much love, so much grace and goodness.  You will be overwhelmed by my goodness as you see it – my glory as I give it.  Hold on, it’s the ride of all rides.  Exhilarating and life giving.  I will do amazing things through the one that is surrendered to me.  To bring glory to me.  Let’s go, jump with me, holding my hand.  Let’s go to the next thing. Jump in, washed by my blood, filled with my Spirit. True Life awaits.

Don’t You Give Up on ME
