Though He Tarry

A couple weeks ago as I was sleeping, I kept hearing the chorus of a song over and over again “Come to Jesus. Come to Jesus. Come to Jesus.”  It was a song that I’d heard before, but I did not know the verses.  As soon as I awoke that morning before I even opened my eyes, I heard the Lord say “Tell my remnant a proper reward is coming. Though he tarry…”

I knew the scripture. I couldn’t remember the address, but I recognized the words.  I found them in Habakkuk 2:3:

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry.”  Habakkuk 2:3 NKJV

It was God’s reply to Habakkuk as he watched and waited for a reply from the Lord. Yet it is a verse that applies over and over again to prophecy in scripture—it comes to pass at its appointed time. I could see Jesus in the scripture in place of “it.” Though he tarries, wait for him…

It is a reminder I’ve repeatedly received over the last several years. Often through dreams and words about being ready, about being awake, not asleep during this hour—keeping watch just as Habakkuk was doing, expecting the answer to arrive.

I was taken to Revelation 22

12 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” 14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying. 16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” 17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost. (Revelation 22:12-17 NASB1995, emphasis mine)

The reward is coming.

As we call out for Him, He is calling out to us—anyone who is willing to come.

I never could find the audio of the song I kept hearing, but I did find the words to the verses.

Come to Jesus! He will save you, Tho’ your sins as crimson glow; If you give your heart to Jesus, He will make it white as snow.

Come to Jesus! Do not tarry, enter in at mercy’s gate; O delay not till the morrow, Lest thy coming be too late.

Come to Jesus dying sinner! Other Savior there is none; He will share with you His glory, when your pilgrimage is done.

Though we don’t know the exact day, hour, year or even decade, we know one thing is certain… “Behold, I (Jesus) am coming quickly…” Revelation 22:12

Though [He] tarries, wait for [him];
Because [He] will surely come,
[He] will not tarry.”  Habakkuk 2:3 NKJV

Whether you are part of the remnant, whether you are far off, whether you’ve never come before—the invitation remains the same to each of us. Come.
