Maybe you are wondering why all of these things I am talking about recently matter. Or how on earth they are applicable to you? After all, if you aren’t Jewish, you likely don’t observe these feasts as a Gentile Christian, though some of you might.
Many years ago the Lord told me to study the feasts, so I began to look at them and their importance and how they’d been already been fulfilled and what they pointed to for future events. What I noticed in the midst of it was there seems to be a timing that comes along with these things, a seasonal shift if you will, to different things. Much like when the weather changes and there is that smell in the air as fall approaches. Even in Houston when it is still almost 100 degrees somedays, you still have this shift in the atmosphere that makes you sense Fall is coming. The air is different, the weather shifts even if still hot and you anticipate the things that come with the season.
To me that is what the feasts are about. Recognizing the shifts in what God is doing in that season, being aware of what he was pointing out and doing in the feasts. Knowing what his focus was at those times. The New Testament says he did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. He did not get rid of all the feasts, he began fulfilling them one by one in the New Testament with the eternal answer and many we see show up again in Revelation.
I am not a person that follows ice hockey at all. Once upon a time I enjoyed going to watch the Austin Ice Bats, but outside of their games I knew nothing about hockey. I still know nothing about it – I can’t tell you when their season starts, when it ends, who the teams are, or who the players are. I have no idea what is going on with it at all. However, the fact that I don’t follow it, pay attention or know or care about any of that does not mean that it no longer exists or has no effect. Just because we as believers might not pay attention to or be aware of these things does not mean that God isn’t still doing things in those seasons and according to those times. More likely it just means we are unaware of what he is doing because we choose not to know – we choose not to look.
So, my challenge to you is this. Look at the feasts. Look at what God has said in the past and what he is saying now. Understand that just because you don’t celebrate it doesn’t mean that God doesn’t still speak through it or want to reveal something to you by it. He didn’t after all tell the Israelites to observe them for generations to come because they had no value or significance.
The more we become aware of where God is working and speaking and what his timing is, the more easily we will align with his purposes in our lives.
